Socceroos star Brett Emerton joins Sydney FC

According to reports Socceroos star Brett Emerton is close to officially becoming A-League club Sydney FC's new marquee player in a big coup for the club.

In a history-making deal Emerton will be the first player to exchange the Barclays Premier League for the A-League.

Brett Emerton, 32 will leave Blackburn Rovers after the club agreed in terminating his contract early.

Emerton, Australia's second most capped player ever in international's has repertedly signed a three-year deal and will take the second marquee spot at the club.

Blackburn boss Steve Kean, also confirmed there have talks with Brett Emerton in talks to go back to Australia. Kean said: "With Brett there has been interest from his hometown club and we have had a bit of dialogue. If Brett does move it will be a family decision, not a football decision. "If Brett decides it's something he'd like to explore you've got to give respect for the service he's given the club. If we do lose him it will be very, very sad".
