Australia win 3-1 in Saudi Arabia
Australia produced a clinical performance with Josh Kennedy scoring 2 goals to win in tough conditions against Saudi Arabia in their second World Cup qualifying game.
The Socceroos were looking much better in Saudi Arabia then they were in Brisbane last week, even though the game was played in mid 30 degree temperatures.
Australia started with a different line up from the other night in Brisbane, and the Socceroos seemed more solid in midfield with Mckay and Jedinak controlling most of the play.
Both teams started the game quite cautious and it was the Socceroos who broke the deadlock on 40 minutes when Josh Kennedy did well to guide his header into the far corner of the net after a great Luke Wilkshere cross
The second half brought more action and with Australia still dictating play it was Kennedy at the 55 minute mark, who produced a cool finish when Brett Holman pounced on a loose pass from the Saudi keeper and set up Kennedy with a great pass for the strikers second.
The game was looking routine for the Socceroos until 10 minutes later when Saudia Arabia were awarded a penelty for a Michael Zullo trip, Schwarzer initially saved the penalty from Shamrani but the rebound fell kindly and he made no mistake the second time.
The goal changed the game for a few minutes with the Saudi's applying pressure and giving Australia problems, that was until Australia got a penalty on 75 minutes which Luke Wilkshere blasted in to make it 3-1.
The win puts Australia on top of Group D with 6 points with 2 wins from 2 games. Thailand are second with 3 points while Oman and Saudi Arabia are both on 1 point.
