Australia win narrowly 2-1 over Thailand
Australia won its first World Cup qualifying game against Thaliand in a hard fought encounter at Brisbane’s Suncorp Stadium.
The Socceroos were close to full strength and many would have thought this should have been a walk in the park for the Aussies, however a very disciplined Thai side defended well and made it hard for the Socceroos on the night
Australia had the majority of possession and started the game well with many attacks in the oppositions box. Thailand surprisingly took the lead in the 15th minute with a well worked move, on the counter the Thai midfielder put in a delightful cross which was put away professionally by Teerasil Dangda to give them early lead.
Australia had many attacks and finally broke the Thai defence when Matty Mckay had his left foot shot tipped by the keeper in to the oncoming Kennedy who had a simple tap in
The Socceroos were looking good and tim Cahill put the ball in the back of the net, only for it to be disallowed by the referee. It was then in the 86th minute when substitute Alex Brosque scored the vital gaol which won the game, again Mckay put in a cross which rattled the defenders and Brosque finished smartly with his left foot.
The win put the Socceroos on top of the group as the other group D game between Oman and saudia Arabia finished in a nil all draw
