Rooney banned for three matches
England and Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney has been banned for three matches by UEFA for his red card against Montenegro.
The ban will start at Euro 2012 and will rule him out of the first 3 games which are part of the group stage of the tournament.
Rooney was shown red when he kicked out at Miodrag Dzudovic in the last qualifying game against Montenegro and has apologised for his actions.
This will be a major blow for England who see Rooney as their number one striker and now they are set to appeal the ban. This may work in their favour to shorten it, or could actually make it worse for the striker who will be desperate to play some part in the Euro 2012 tournament.
