Arsenal were interested in Joey Barton

Joey Barton revealed he came close to joining Arsenal before eventually signing Queens Park Rangers.

Barton, 29 left Newcastle last month and he now claims he held talks with Arsene Wenger.

Joey Barton revealed his bust up with Gunners new signing Gervinho on the opening day of the season maybe killed off his hopes of wearing an Arsenal shirt. Barton was criticised for the incident and has stated "If I hadn't played against Arsenal on the first day, I may have signed for them”.
